No Apologies

I guess because of the political season, everyone is just annoying me lately. Suddenly, people who I used to think were reasonable people are coming out of the woodwork. As a hispanic, Catholic, conservative 25-year-old woman I find that people almost expect me to apologize for having my beliefs.

Among my friends, I get emails entitled "if you have a heart" that pertain to the prop 8 measure that is on the ballot. They say "if I have a heart" then I should vote no because it's so difficult for anyone to find love these days and no one has the right to take that blessed sacrament away. Well, I do have a heart and I'm voting yes on prop 8 and to insinuate that I don't have a heart because I have a different belief system than you is narrow minded. I thought that's what liberals were supposed to be good at doing, right? Well, the more of them I meet here in my great, home-state of California (where saying you're conservative gets you shunned) the more I realize that liberals are more often than not just as, if not more, narrow-minded as everyone else. That said, I don't believe that discriminating against gays is right and I would never call them any derogatory terms. I've had gay friends. They're people, too. I know that. But just because I like them doesn't mean I have to agree with their lifestyle. Just because I sympathize with them doesn't mean I have to believe what they believe and throw away what I've learned throughout my life.

I refuse to apologize for any of my beliefs because I have never had anyone apologize for their beliefs to me. Trying to guilt me into voting one way isn't going to work and if it did, it would not be authentic, genuine convincing
